WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE DECOMMISSION OF THE 3G NETWORK
What is the 3G Shutdown, and why is it happening?
The “3G shutdown” refers to cellular network providers decommissioning the 3G networks. The big cellular providers are in the process of upgrading the mobile networks from 3G to 4G.
The 3G network is becoming obsolete with newer devices using newer networks that provide greater bandwidth and options. Because of this the network providers are switching off the 3G network in 2024 so they can provide better coverage with their newer more efficient networks.
Q. When is the 3G shutdown date Australia?
The 3G Cellular network will be completely shut down by June, 2024. After this date no device that relies on a 3G connection will be able to function.
However most networks have already stopped maintaining the 3G network and will upgrade rather than repair towers if they go down in your area. If you have a 3G device we recommend upgrading ASAP to avoid service interruptions and keep your service operating in the event of a 3G failure.
Q. Why should I upgrade to 4G Now?
The official decommission date for the 3G cellular network is in 2024 but Prior to this date, the network will be upgrading failing 3G towers to 4G rather than repairing them.
This could result in a sudden loss of service without notice, you would be without your life saving medical alert device able to communicate to the network. This is why we recommend upgrading to a 4G system as soon as possible.
Will my Home Companion Pendant or Watch still work with a 4G Base Station?
The pendant or watch from your current 3G base station is fully compatible with the 4G Home Companion. Your 4G base will include instructions on how to program your current pendant into the new base station.
However we recommend ordering a new pendant with your upgraded base station so it has a fresh battery that will last long into your future.
If you order a new pendant or watch it will arrive pre programmed with your 4G home companion base station.
