Personal Alarm. Maintain independence. Maintain freedom.
The APERS Home Companion Base Unit comes with a wearable device that allows the person wearing it to remotely activate the alarm when they are situated in and around the home. Choose from the Pearl Pendant, Pearl Wriststrap, or Pearl Fall Detection Pendant.
The Pearl Pendants are made from non-irritant plastic and can be worn around the neck on a surgical grade stainless steel safety chain, designed to release if it becomes caught. The Pearl Wriststrap is available with a low-irritant waterproof band or a comfortable stretch strap, designed for effortless wear and removal.
The system operates on the 4G mobile network. This offers reliable protection without the need for a fixed line or NBN™ connection.
In normal operation, the APERS Home Companion emergency button has dimly backlit lights underneath, so it can be easily located in the dark. Once activated, the lights underneath the emergency help button will rotate, providing reassurance that the alert has been received and that help is on the way.

There is no need to be technically inclined to own or use this product. Our Home Companion systems arrive preprogrammed and ready to go. Just plug it in and you’ll have peace of mind instantly, without needing special tools or complicated steps.
Fall Detection
Sometimes a fall can leave you unable to reach for help. With optional fall detection, your pendant can automatically alert our Care Team, making sure that assistance is on the way when you need it most.
Please note:
Please be aware: Unlike many products on the market, our Home Companion devices are professionally monitored, not self-monitored. Self-monitoring systems rely on calling or texting preset phone numbers, which can be unreliable if the recipient’s phones are switched off, or on silent, or in night mode. In an emergency, this could mean help is delayed or not provided at all.
If a self-monitored device dials 000, the caller must still be able to speak, explain what has happened, and provide their location. Without this information, emergency services may not be able to send help. In a real emergency, this can be difficult or even impossible, especially if the person is injured, confused, or unable to speak. That is why our Home Companion products connect directly to our 24/7 Care Team, who can quickly assess the situation and phone your emergency contacts, which may include emergency services, on your behalf providing them with the details and your location.
Even if you are unable to respond our Care Team will ensure help is on the way.

Our products are designed to help people maintain their independence and continue living comfortably on their own with minimal assistance, reducing the need for more intensive care options such as assisted living.
Our 24/7monitoring centre is an A Graded Monitoring Centre, which means we operate to strict Australian Standards. This includes meeting ‘fast response time’ requirements. This ensures help is arranged as quickly as possible where every second counts.
Not all alternative 3rd party providers meet this standard. Some ungraded centres have no set response time, which can result in dangerous delays when someone needs urgent assistance.
We are graded to AS2201.2:2022 – Alarm and Electronic Security Systems, Part 2: Monitoring Centres, providing confidence that your safety is being handled to the highest professional standard.
How it Works
If you need help, simply press the emergency button on the APERS Home Companion Base Unit or the wearable Pearl personal alarm Pendant or Wriststrap or Wall Mount Help Button.
The APERS Home Companion base unit will transmit an alarm to our 24/7 monitoring centre Care Team, who will then open a two-way voice channel to the Base Unit. Our Care Team will talk with you to understand what’s happened and organise the help you need.
FAQ's
Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have additional questions, please contact us. Our friendly team are here to assist.
If there is an emergency, is the information we share kept confidential?
Yes all information will be kept confidential. All our staff must comply with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Our monitoring centre and our Care Team staff comply with the AS 4607-1999 Personal Response Systems and AS2201.2:2022 – Alarm and Electronic Security Systems, Part 2: Monitoring Centres.
AS 4607 was established to ensure all personal response systems operate securely, efficiently, and reliably. Manufacturers, service providers, and monitoring centres must all comply with AS 4607 standards and criteria to ensure the ongoing safety of users.
AS2201.2:2022 sets strict requirements for the operation, management, and security of monitoring centres, including how personal information and alarm data is handled. Under this standard, all information received through monitored alarms must be protected from unauthorised access, disclosure, or misuse. Only authorised personnel are permitted to access client information, and all communication systems are required to meet stringent security and reliability criteria.
Is it easy to set up?
Yes, it is very easy to set up. You don’t need to be technically inclined at all.
The product (the alarms) arrive to you preprogrammed by us and ready to go. Just plug in the Base Unit into a power socket and it will work.
No special tools are needed. There are no complicated steps.
Plus, if you ever need assistance, we are only ever a phone call away.
Do you provide options for Retirement Villages and Nursing Homes
Yes, we do. More information about this is here within our website.
APERS provides 24/7 monitored personal alarms and on-site solutions that scale across villages and facilities, with reporting built for quality assurance and compliance.
Why is it good that your devices use the 4G network?
Our devices connect through the 4G mobile network, so they don’t rely on Wi-Fi or an internet connection to work. This means they can operate anywhere there is 4G coverage.
Because they’re completely independent of your home internet, they’ll still work even during power outages or if your Wi-Fi goes down, ensuring you stay connected to help when you need it most.
Can I use the Optus network?
We have the option of using Optus SIM Cards if there is no Telstra coverage where you are located.
Is there a difference between the Telstra 4G mobile network and the Telstra 4GX mobile network?
Yes there is. The Telstra 4G mobile network and the Telstra 4GX mobile network are not the same thing.
Our devices use the FULL Telstra 4G mobile network. It is best to avoid inferior products that only use Telstra 4GX. It is the wholesale Telstra network and does not have full coverage. For example, some other 3rd party products on the market use Telstra reseller (eg. ALDI SIM cards), which is also against ALDI’s terms of use.
All of our devices are stand-alone & use 4G SIM cards, not telephone lines, 4GX or the NBN.
Can I wear the wearable device (the pendant or wriststrap) in the shower?
Yes you can. Our Pearls pendants and wriststrap are waterproof, even in the shower or bath where accidents can all too easily happen. You never need to take it off.
Can I rent instead of buying?
Yes, you can. Rental pricing is shown above on this page.
For more details about how our rental options work, please visit the ‘Rental Products’ FAQs section on our FAQs page or contact us.

Will you call 000 if it is an emergency?
Yes, if the situation requires emergency services we will call 000 straight away. We will ensure that first-responder assistance is on its way.
We will also stay on the line with you to provide support and assistance. We can also call your preferred emergency contacts.
If I accidentally break my device or it stops working, do I receive a replacement free-of-charge?
All our devices come with a 12-month warranty. If your device stops working due to a fault within this period, it will be replaced free of charge.
For accidental damage or breakages, replacements are not covered under the warranty but can be purchased separately.
Does the APERS Home Companion still work if there is a power outage?
If you experience a power outage the APERS Home Companion base unit has a built-in battery that will operate the unit for up to 40 hours. Even if the electricity goes out your APERS Home Companion will continue to connect you to our Care Team.
Will the wearable device work if I leave my home?
If you leave your house (or house-yard) the wearable Pearl personal help button devices described on this page will not work. This also depends on the size of your yard.
The wearable Pearl personal help button device wirelessly connects to the APERS Home Companion within a 300m range (in open air), where the Telstra 4G mobile network is functioning.
If you need a wearable device that works away from home, please view our wearable mobile medical alert alarm APERS Freedom Friend and APERS Safety Mate products. They can be used anywhere in Australia that has Telstra 4G mobile coverage, or Optus.
Do I have to recharge the battery within the wearable device?
No — our wearable devices have sealed batteries that do not need recharging. They are completely sealed to ensure they remain waterproof and durable.
The Pearl Pendant and Pearl Wriststrap batteries last for up to 3 years, while the Pearl Fall Detection Pendant battery lasts for up to 2 years, depending on usage.
When the battery is nearing the end of its life, the device will alert our Care Team so that a replacement can be arranged.
I have a Pacemaker. Can I wear your devices safely?
The Pearl Pendant can be safely worn by those with a pacemaker, as it operates at very low power and does not interfere with medical implants.
For the Base Unit, it is recommended to be installed at least 25cm away from any pacemaker or implanted device. This ensures it continues to operate safely and effectively without electromagnetic interference.
Because pacemakers and implants can vary, we recommend confirming with your medical specialist if you have any concerns about your specific device.
Why are there monthly fees?
The monthly fee covers the 24/7 monitoring service provided by our dedicated Care Team, as well as the managed SIM card plan that keeps your device connected to the mobile network.
When you press your pendant or wriststrap, the alert is sent through the SIM card directly to our Australian-based monitoring centre, where trained staff are ready to respond at any time.
The ongoing service also allows us to monitor the status of your device, so if there’s ever a problem, such as a fault, loss of connection or low battery, our team is notified automatically so we can follow up and make sure everything is working correctly.
These fees ensure your device stays connected, monitored, and supported around the clock, giving you peace of mind that help is always available when you need it.
How is the product delivered?
All products are delivered through Australia Post with tracking to ensure safe and reliable delivery. Our team monitors each shipment to confirm it arrives securely at its destination.
I have already got a PERS device. Can I use it, or do I need to buy yours?
Typically if larger organisations (eg. Aged Care or Independent Living Organisations) have already sourced PERS devices, we can still connect them to our Care Monitoring Centre.
However we do not monitor BYO devices that have been purchased online by the general public. In these situations, we recommending buying a quality device from us.
You have said you keep the fees as low as possible. Please tell me more?
We work hard to keep our fees as low as possible while still providing a high-quality, 24/7 monitored service. Our pricing reflects the ongoing costs of maintaining reliable monitoring equipment, mobile network connectivity (SIM card plans), and our professional Care Team who are available around the clock.
Because we operate our own Australian-based monitoring centre, we manage costs efficiently without compromising on safety or service, helping us keep fees affordable for our customers while ensuring you receive fast, dependable support when it matters most.
If you have a power-outage at your Customer Call Care Centre, do you have redundancies?
Yes we do. Our priority is to provide swift and effective assistance in emergency situations via our purpose built Care Centre, constructed to be self-contained and withstand extreme weather events, with an uninterrupted power supply system to all vital computer systems, and a back-up generator that powers the entire Care Centre for more than 48 hours at any one time. Additionally, there is off-site redundancy of all critical monitoring hardware and data, ensuring that even in the most severe situations, our Care Team is available.
